a half-assed poem
Lately, I've been feeling like I'm half-assing my workouts among other things, but I do think it's better than waiting until I can "give it my all"—whatever that means. Thankfully perfection exists more in the affliction of perfectionism than in real life, so I think I will keep variably fractioning my asses until my full ass is in the ground.
Creation is hard when I consume with ease
with discarded drafts I lose time either way
while I admire from afar the hard worker bees
I find simpler ways to waste the day
The atrophy is slow, an insidious beast
thoughts are first to go, and they pave the path
as resistance lowers efforts that then cease
we bear the apathy's leaden wrath
The only thing to do in life is try
no success starts with anything else
should my trying be the reason I die
my efforts will rebuild the failures I smelt
In failed routines and projects galore
I find parts of myself I'd almost avoid
yet this dynamism that humanity pours
is all that separates us from androids
Through all the hope brought on by dawn
and the calming rest we find at night
time's arrow will march forever on
a blessing and curse on the ride of life
We all try as we may and try as we might
because trying is all the delight in this life
a llama not a donkey — but at least I tried, right?
